Assam Student Day 2023: The Assam government on 26 March 2023 declares 31st March as Assam Student Day or Chatra Divas to pay tribute to Lt. Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma. UN Brahma “Father of Bodo People”
Bodofa Upendra is fondly remembered as the “Father of Bodos”, and his birthday is commemorated as Students Day in Assam from today i.e. 31 March 2023. The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and other organizations of Bodo community has been observing 31st March as a student day in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and various other places, Since the early days.
About Upendranath Brahma
Upendra Nath Brahma was born on 31 March 1956 in Boragari, Dotma, BTR, Assam, India. He was given the title as President of Goalpara ASBU in 1978, Vice President of Central ABSU in 1981, and President of Central ABSU in 1986.

Assam Students Day 2023
Assam Students Day, or Chatra Divas, is an annual event observed in Assam on 31 March every year. This day we remember the birth date of great social reformer and student leader Upendra Nath Brahma. In early days Upendra studied M.Sc in Physics, worked as an Income Tax Inspector Officer , Science Teacher and also served as the President of Central ABSU. He was known for his “Non-Violent Bodoland Movement” and the famous slogan “Live and Let Live”. Therefore, the Assam government announced his birthday, 31 March, to be observed as Student Day to pay tribute to him.

On Student Day, a specific theme is chosen each year, which guides the celebrations for the day. This year’s theme has been announced and a variety of initiatives will be launched during a central event at Shankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Students’ Day: History
The Government of Assam (GOA) has declared 31st March as Students’ Day in Assam on March 26 2023, to pay tribute to renown and social reformer late Bodofa UN Brahma.
It’s difficult to put into words the significance of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma’s role as a student leader. He was affectionately referred to as ‘Bodofa’, which was bestowed upon him as a tribute to his exceptional vision and leadership qualities for the Bodo community.
Ranoj Pegu Assam’s Education Minister announced Student Day in tweeter on 26 March 2023. He tweeted, “Government of Assam, in a historic move, dedicates 31st March as Student Day to pay tribute to Shri Upendra Nath Brahma, the great social reformer, who was born on 31st March 1956. The Students Day will be observed in all educational institutions as special homage to the student leader.”
